When we plugged local events to watch the summer solstice sunrise recently, I vaguely remember it saying that you definitely wouldn’t see us there. But somehow, there we were last Saturday, sitting on the beach in front of Walpole Bay Tidal Pool at 4am.
It was a very lovely experience. As the sun peeked over the horizon, there were people lined along the promenade and filling the pool in front of us. The atmosphere was incredible and I’d urge you to make the bleary-eyed trip next year.
On Thursday, I found myself feeling connected to the local community again, albeit at a very different event. The first edition of new monthly business networking event Seaside CEO took place at the Royal Temple Yacht Club in Ramsgate.
Focussed on developing creative businesses, we heard from founder of the Iris creative agency Ian Millner, Andrea Flamini of jewellery brand Loel, and wayfinding designer Ian Whybrow on a panel discussion. It was interesting to hear their insights and stories from their very successful careers, but also that they were still so interested in engaging with the community around them.
However, the real highlight was meeting so many local business owners. Everyone was lovely, and enthusiastic about not only what they were doing, but also how it fits into the wider Thanet ecosystem. There’s so much happening here, and so much that is building. I left (considerably later than I said I would) feeling really excited about what the future holds.
The other thing I’m excited about right now is wrestling, thanks to this week’s interview with TK Cooper from Margate’s Pro Wrestling Colossus. They’ve got their biggest show to date coming up at the Drill Shed next week. If you want to find out more about that, or if you’ve ever wondered how pro wrestling actually works, then we have the article for you.
