Ramsgate’s Alley Bar is taking a little break for the summer. It will reopen on September 11, when it hosts the Ramsgate Festival of Sound Late with Lunatraktors at 10pm. The folk-electronica act will perform an experimental cabaret version of Timeweavers, an accessible theatre piece that is currently in development. Tickets from £20.
Margate Winter Gardens will be opening up its gardens on August 22-23 for a weekend of fun. On the Saturday, there will be live music, DJs, performances, food and pop-up bars. The Sunday will be family focussed, with giant bubbles, balloon modelling, puppets, storytellings, martial arts, family yoga and more. Full details to be announced soon. Free entry.
Artist Emily Peasgood is showing community artwork This is England at St George’s Church in Ramsgate until Saturday, August 22. The 20 feet wide, 12 feet tall piece made from reclaimed flags was created by 72 volunteers at a series of workshops earlier this year. The aim was to see if the English flag could be transformed from what has become a devise symbol into something that represents everyone who lives here. Emily is currently crowdfunding to take This is England on tour around the country.
The Junkoactive Wasteman is set to bring his particular brand of EBM (electronic bean music) to Where Else in Margate on Saturday, September 12. The rubbish-clad singer and his trash-adorned bandmates The Tin Can Twins will be enthusing about baked beans for your pleasure. If this has left you feeling confused and unsettled, perhaps listen to new single I Eat Baked Beans Every Day will help. Perhaps not. Tickets £12.
The dust has barely settled on last week’s Margate Soul Weekender but super early bird tickets for 2027 have already gone on sale. The dates for next year’s festival are August 6-8, if you want to check your diary. Tickets £110.
Balearic Boutique will be taking over the Sun Deck on Margate on Saturday, August 29 with DJ Jo Mills headlining the day. Drop in between 2pm and 10pm. Free entry.
Summer’ween is coming to Where Else in Margate on Saturday, August 29. What is summer’ween? It’s like Halloween but in the summer. Not weening yourself off summer, which I refuse to do. Anyway, rock, punk, emo and metal club night Can’t Stop will be putting on a fancy dress party. Rock up in your best heatwave appropriate scary costume. Tickets £7.
Elevate Sound will be hosting a sound bath at The Falstaff in Ramsgate on Sunday, September 6. The one hour session begins at 11am. Tickets £25.
