It’s a busy day (and weekend) across Thanet, with Margate Pride, Broadstairs Folk Week, and Joe Goddard kicking things off at the newly opened Blackbird, once Seabird, from 8pm.
For Broadstairs Folk Week punters, if you want Morris dancers, make sure you go to the festival’s parade, which will feature more than 27 Morris sides. The parade starts at Pierremont Avenue at 5.30pm before snaking its way through the High Street to the Bandstand. There’s a host of events today - many free. Take a look at what’s on.
For Margate Pride priders, the parade starts at 1pm, and ends in Dreamland for the main programme. Once everything wraps up there and you’re wondering where’s the party at, well…
The Biggest Gayest Party in the World Ever will now be in Dreamland’s Hall by the Sea, running from 9pm-2am. Meat Raffle will take over Olby’s, starting from 10pm. With a 3am close time, it’s the latest after party in town. The George and Heart will have DJs going until 9.30pm (although its doors will remain open until 1am), CAMP is going out with a bang, with the venue’s closing party running from 3pm to late.
La!, which takes over the Lighthouse Bar during the day and evening, will also bring the party to its High Street venue from 9pm. Margate Arts Club plays global sounds including Afrobeat, disco, Desi, and Italio, in its after party, which runs 6pm-2am.
HOFFS also has DJs into the evening, Punk Rock Pride will be taking over Where Else, Double D’s will be putting on a pop party in the basement at Cinque Ports, and Justine’s has a free cabaret and DJ set from Ru Paul queen Just May (6pm-9.30pm) before Pink Pony Club until 3am.
For people looking for a different pace, Ramsgate musician Patrick Wolf will perform two unplugged sets at ARK in Cliftonville at 3pm and 8pm. You can find out more about the show - including why this is his first show in Thanet, despite living down here for six years, in this week’s feature.
