Thanet District Council is considering plans submitted by The Tracey Emin Foundation for changes to the Westbrook Loggia building at Westbrook Bay. It proposes the creation of a cafe, restaurant, roof terrace, gallery and event space, artist studio, sauna, and changing facilities. The building’s original towers are also planned to be reinstated.
A section of Dane Valley Woods was destroyed by a wildfire earlier this week. One acre of the 12 acre site was damaged. No humans were harmed but a large area of bramble was burned away, affecting a large amount of wildlife. “This is a stark reminder that in the current drought conditions, wildfires can spread very quickly, and everyone should be extra vigilant and keep fingers crossed for rain,” says Dane Valley Woods in a statement.
The Captain Digby pub in Broadstairs has temporarily closed following an electrical fire last weekend. Fire fighters were called to the venue just before 2am on August 1. “We would like to thank the emergency services for their incredible and fast work helping us,” says the pubs in a statement. “We will be closed for the foreseeable. Please bear with us while we work our way through this challenging time.” No one was injured in the blaze.
Thanet’s first Lego building cafe has opened on Queen Street in Ramsgate. Open seven days a week, it offers a vast array of sets to build in one, two or three hour sessions. There are also SEN sessions and adults only evenings. Find out more and book a session.
The Circular Margate Materials Hub has moved into a temporary home at the Margate Creative Land Trust in Cliftonville to run a pilot programme. Over the next three months, it will be running carpentry workshops, creating a showroom for reclaimed materials that you can buy, and hosting talks and events exploring how to grow the circular economy across Thanet and East Kent.
