Cult post-punk legends The Nightingales return to Ramsgate Music Hall on Saturday, February 21 next year - the perfect, if delayed, companion to the screening of the documentary about the band, King Rocker, at this month’s Margate Film Festival. Tickets £18.
Wine festival LOW is birthing a smaller baby this month. I’m not sure how I feel about that sentence or if it even makes sense, but sadly there’s no way to change it now. LOW Crawl will take place over three days later this month, with venues around town offering wine samples. It starts at The Shakespeare on November 17 and will finish with a closing party at Sète on November 19. Ticket £15.
The Bottleneck in Broadstairs will be hosting a night of Portuguese wine tasting on Tuesday, November 18. An expert host will guide through a range of wines from the country, as you also dig into plates of sharing platters to soak it all up. Tickets £55.
If you missed out on eating saganaki in support of the Mayor of Margate and her charitable endeavours, you can brush up on your general knowledge and take part of her quiz night, held at Hartsdown Academy, Friday, November 28, from 7.30pm. Individual and team tickets available.
Are you drag curious? Coinciding with her Holy Show tour, Father JC will be hosting a weekend drag workshop at CAMP in Cliftonville on November 15-16. Over two days, you’ll explore the whole genre of drag, its cultural significance, developing your own character, the art of storytelling and more. Tickets £1-20.
Dark Entries and Dan Thompson will be hosting a zine fair at Marine Studios on November 29-30. Over a dozen zine makers and small presses will come together to show their work. There will also be readings and performances throughout the weekend. Free entry.
New arts organisation Common Grounding is holding a launch party at Sunflower House in Folkestone on Friday, November 14. Founded by Sidonie Carey-Green, Josie Carter and Jodie Cole, it will support community movement projects across the Kent coast. Head down 7-9pm to find out more and see the premiere of new film Edge States, based on Cutaway Collective’s performance project of the same name. Free entry.
ARK in Cliftonville’s Making More Waves festival is back this month. Running from November 12-16, it will showcase performances created in Kent and Essex. On the bill are Harry Baker, Suzy Crothers, Alice d’Lumiere, Katie McGarry and more. See the full programme and book tickets.
Margate Pride will host a scrap swap at Margate Arts Club on Wednesday, November 12. Head down to swap arts and craft supplies of any kind. There will also be a flag making workshop with Charlee M Piper and a craft clinic with Queer Knit’s Leonie Cameron. The event will run from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
The Falstaff on Addington Street in Ramsgate will be holding a craft fair on Sunday, November 16 from 11am to 5pm. If you’re a local maker and would like to have a stall, email lauren@thefalstafframsgate.com.
