Multidisciplinary artist Rieko hosts a four week ritual writing course at Turner Contemporary in Margate, starting on Saturday, October 10. Connecting personal ritual with collective creativity, participants will explore intuition, memory, sound and self-expression through writing, meditation, movement, drawing and improvised performance. The course will build towards a final performance in December. Places £100 or £30 for individual sessions.
Spoken word with improvised live music night Chalk Talk moves into the main room at Olby’s in Margate for its next edition on November 13. Harry Baker tops a line up of spoken word acts, which also includes Bex Booker, Kareem Parkins-Brown and Michael Isaacs. All will be joined by the Olby's Soul Cafe house band, who will provide an unplanned soundtrack. Tickets £12.50.
Optimistic club night Optimissimo marks its first birthday next month with, well, an optimistic club night. It’ll be back at Margate Arts Club on Friday, October 2 with a headline set from Constance Confetti. Residents Milski and Orac808 will also be on hand to keep things upbeat. Tickets £8.
Queer Games Club launches at Board at Home in Ramsgate on Sunday, October 4 and will then run every Sunday from 11am to 2pm. Run by and for the LGBTQ+ tabletop gaming community but all welcome for three focussed hours of board games and D&D. Entry £5.

The Best of Times bookshop in Broadstairs is now the Thanet home of Bookish Board Games. The nationwide event run by Book Crawl UK welcomes board game fans aged 8+, offering a range of book, story and word related games. Pay-what-you-can entry.
Everyone loves a wedding. Especially when it’s Halloween-themed, features a line up of drag acts, and isn’t actually a wedding. Drag Me to the Club presents Hell of a Wedding at Margate Beach club on Saturday, October 17. Tickets £8.
Inspired by Margate Restaurant Week, which takes place in January, Folkestone Restaurant Week is set to launch this autumn. Running November 9-13, it will also offer two course set menus for £20.26 across a wide variety of restaurants. See the full list of participating venues.
Do you like bands with Dog in their name? Well, have we got news for you. Fat Dog are set to play Olby’s in Margate on Tuesday, November 17 (tickets from £13.84), while Dog Unit will play Ramsgate Music on Friday, February 26 (tickets £17.50). As as added bonus, both bands are also absolutely brilliant.
Basement Boogie is back at Ramsgate Arts Club on Saturday, October 3 with DJs Richio Suzuki and Andrew Medhurst spinning funk, soul, rare groove, disco and soulful house from 8pm to 3am. Free entry.
