Our pick of things to do in Thanet and beyond this week, including a cathedral light installation, food pop-ups, stand up comedy, the Margate Bookie literary festival and more.

Light and sound artist duo Luxmuralis will be taking over Rochester Cathedral from Tuesday until Saturday. Tickets £10

Canterbury’s Gulbenkian Arts Centre hosts five performances of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s Stick Man from Tuesday to Thursday. Tickets £15

New cult film night Black Pearl Cinema launches at the Horsebridge Arts Centre in Whitstable on Wednesday with a screening of Pandora and the Flying Dutchman. Tickets £11

Comedian Helen Bauer performs her latest show Bless Her at Where Else in Margate on Wednesday. Tickets £16.50

Rakookoo is taking over the kitchen at the Blue Pelican in Deal from Wednesday to Sunday, serving up a Vietnamese lunch and dinner menu. Book your table

Brighter Days Markets launches the first issue of its new magazine showcasing East Kent artisan craft makers at the Shakespeare pub in Margate on Thursday at 6pm. The magazine is edited by Strange Tourist’s Andy Malt. 

James Fox will discuss his new book Craftland, a chronicle of Britain’s lost arts and vanishing trades, at the Fort Road Hotel bar on Thursday. Free tickets

Interactive music quiz No Skip is making its way down from fancypants East London for a one-off night at Margate Arts Club. The theme is Beyonce vs Britney and afterwards there will be dancing. Tickets £5

Poet Connor Sansby gives a talk at Marine Studios titled Censorship in British Literature & Media, as part of Margate Queer Library’s series of events around banned books on Sunday. Pay-what-you-can tickets.
