Bank holiday things to do, family friendly events, your favourite secret woodland festival, and so much more. Our pick of things happening in Margate, Ramsgate, Broadstairs and further afield this week.

Today is, of course… Pirate Day! At Plunder Books in Ramsgate, at least. There will be children’s stories, games, flag designing, dressing up, dancing, temporary tattoos, and sea shanties. 

Number Nine in Ramsgate will be cooking up a Mexican bank holiday feast today from 1pm. Book a table

Neptunes Hall in Broadstairs is holding a garden party today with DJs Rosy Ross and Synth Sound System, plus a live performance from The LKG Trio. 2pm until late. Free entry. 

Cocktail bar Daisy on Cliftonville’s Marine Terrace closes down tonight with one final ‘drink the bar dry’ event. 

The Thanet Games will take place in Cliftonville’s Dane Park on Wednesday from 1am to 3pm. A day of sports, activities, mindfulness, self-care, crafts and more. Free entry. 

Broadstairs’ final beach fireworks display of the summer will take place on Wednesday night with live music from Ozzie & the Uglies.

Kentish PIP will be at The Fermentorium in Ramsgate on Wednesday to showcase a range of the company’s ciders. Tickets £10

Assembly is back at Off Licence in Cliftonville on Wednesday with acoustic sets from James Goodhead, Clementine Blue and Sam Furness. £7 on the door. 

Horniman Museum and Gardens in London will host a sunset performance of big band ditties by the South London Jazz Orchestra on Thursday. Tickets £15.

The Burning Hell return to Ramsgate Music Hall on Thursday. Tickets £17.50.

Smugglers Festival opens its gates on Thursday and runs through to the end of the weekend. Limited tickets still available

LGBTQ+ night Club Climax returns to The John in Canterbury on Friday. Tickets £5

Martha Wainwright will be playing a show at Dover’s Booking Hall on Friday, marking the 20th anniversary of her Melting Vinyl album. Tickets £30

Ash Mukherjee will perform his brilliant coming of age show Vishnu’s Got My Back at the Tom Thumb Theatre on Friday and Saturday. Tickets £12.

The TKE Studios Summer Fair returns on Saturday from 1pm. Come along for art, games, performances, food and community. 

Join artist and bee keeper Dominic Rose for a bee walk, exploring Margate’s wild bee population and their favourite spots in and around Margate Station on Saturday. Free tickets

The Falstaff on Ramsgate’s Addington Street hosts vocalist Lynne Wallis, accompanied by Steve Hennings and Phil Brown, for an afternoon jazz session held in the hotel’s gardens on Sunday from 1.30pm.
