Last weekend we were treated to the undeniable spectacle of a Flaming Lips show when the band played Dreamland in Margate. With props and costume changes for every song (rarely with any actual relation to the song), the band rattled through a selection of their greatest hits, filling the air with confetti several times to keep the celebratory atmosphere alive.
After that, the Beta Band took to the stage. While that Flaming Lips performance was a tough act to follow, the reformed band turned out 90 minutes of songs from across their career. While they had no confetti or inflatables, band members did often switch instruments mid-song and were impressively tight, as if the 20 year gap in their timeline hadn't happened.
