Toby Jones was recently in Margate filming part of a new episode of BBC One’s Who Do You Think You Are? The actor visited the Theatre Royal, although his exact connection to the venue is yet to be revealed. Jones was last in the town to film 2023 Sam Mendes film Empire of Light. His episode of the long-running genealogy show is set to air later this spring.
Quex Barn's C U B O Pizzeria has found a new home in Arch 16 in Ramsgate, alongside racks and shelves of vintage stuff. Run by Carlo Alberto who hails from Venice, it serves up traditional-style pizza, with several vegan options too. Open for eat in, take away and delivery across Thanet.
Having recently taken ownership of Ramsgate Youth Centre, securing its long term future, Pie Factory Music is now seeking help to bring the building’s annexe back into use. “We want to make this space safe, welcoming and useable for our community while we consider its long-term role for our organisation, and we need your help,” says the charity. “It’s been sitting empty for six years and it needs some serious TLC.” It needs volunteers to assist with weeding, window cleaning, wildflower planting and tree cutting. Stagecoach is bringing back the Thanet Open Top bus for its tenth year. The hop on, hop off bus travels along the coast through Minnis Bay, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate and this year will take a new route down Broadstairs High Street. It will be operating through the Easter holidays, May half term and throughout the summer. Over the Easter weekend, the Easter Bunny will be riding along with you, handing out treats. The Ramsay and Williams ice cream shop that has been a mainstay of Margate Old Town for several years is on the move. This summer it will pop up in a new location on Northdown Road in Cliftonville. The address is still to be announced.
The Old Curiosity Shop have started running an arts club every Tuesday from 2pm-3pm from its Broadstairs quarters. Free and drop in, everyone is welcome but it's best suited to adults and young people who are homeschooling.
