Heritage Lab has announced the results of its public consultation on plans to renovate and refurbish eight Art Deco shelters on Ramsgate’s East Cliff lower promenade for a variety of uses. 93.5% of respondents were in favour of the plan, with just 1.2% against and 5.3% unsure. “We’ve been blown away with the level of support from our shelters consultation, which demonstrates huge public interest in the project and our coastal environment,” says Heritage Lab CEO Rob Kenyon. “The feedback has led to direct changes to some of our plans and we’ve had so many good ideas that we will try to incorporate into the scheme.” Expressions of interest are now being invited from anyone who would like to run one of the shelters. Pie Factory Music in Ramsgate has launched Pie Pros - a new work and life skills programme for young people. The programme offers weekly work and life skills sessions for 16-20-year-olds who are not currently in employment or education. Taking place on Wednesdays from 10am to midday from October 1, the sessions of confidence-building activities, tips of getting ready to work, introductions to different industries, one-to-one mentoring and more. Thanet District Council has submitted plans to build a new Green Campus at the Port of Ramsgate. Documents say it “aims to create training, education, and business opportunities within the marine and maritime industries and is part of Ramsgate's £19.8 million Levelling Up program awarded by the government in October 2021.” If approved, work is expected to begin this year with completion at some point in 2026. The Jetty Bistro in Broadstairs has opened the Jetty Wine Bar. Housed in the same building, the cosy bar has an amazing view straight out to the horizon. Open Tuesday to Sunday

Olby’s in Margate has put out an open call to find people who want to bring their ideas for lowkey events to life over the autumn and winter period. Selected events will get free use of the upstairs bar, as well as marketing, graphic design and development support. Applications are open until Monday, October 6. Apply now.

Chix Stock have announced that they are leaving Cinque Ports in Margate, as its residency that began at the pub in February comes to an end. The pair behind the fried chicken menu Billy Stock and Ellie Topham say that an announcement of a new project is coming soon. But you’ll have to wait for that, because it’s still business as usual until Sunday November 9 - with a farewell party the night before.
