News Blast: Ramsgate's Granville Theatre up for national award and more

The Granville Theatre in Ramsgate has been announced as a finalist in the Great Renovation category of this year’s Theatres Trust Great British Theatres Awards. The prize recognises theatre retrofit or refurbishment projects that have sensitively adapted a theatre to preserve its character while transforming accessibility, comfort, technical capability and sustainability. “It is truly a real honour to be among some of the country’s best venues and we want to thank everyone for their support,” says Zahra Tarjomani, co-director of Granville owner Westwood One, which is currently renovating Margate's Winter Gardens. The overall winner will be announced in November.

Ramsgate Town Council is once again offering cheap fruit trees to Ramsgate residents. For £5 you can have an apple, pear, cherry or plum tree in your front garden next spring (it must be in your front garden so that your neighbours can share the fruit, that’s one of the rules). Each tree comes with a stake, fertiliser and planting instructions. Only 100 are available, so act now. Full details. 

The Margate School of Art is looking for someone or some organisation to take over the building’s cafe. The arrangement would be on a license to occupy deal, and the cafe would be open to the general public as well as students and staff. We’re also coming into roast season. Cliftonville Dining Room’s roast pork knocks it out of the park, in my opinion. They’re now serving all the trimmings and yorkies every Sunday. Us at Fort Road will also be making gravy in vast quantities from this Sunday, and this one comes with sharing cauliflower cheese.
