Radiohead albums synced to 1922 silent movie Nosferatu, an Arts in Ramsgate fundraising club night, a whole lot of apples, and more. Events and things to in Thanet and beyond in the coming weeks.
Broadstairs’ Palace Cinema will be putting on a special screening of 1922 classic Nosferatu synced with Radiohead’s Kid A and Amnesiac albums on Sunday, October 12. If the trailer is anything to go by, this pairing will work very well. Tickets £10.
Arts in Ramsgate is putting on a fundraising night at Margate Art Club on Saturday, October 11. DJing an eclectic mix of genres from dub to post-punk will be Dub Will Heal Our World, Benedict Drew, The Vacuum Cleaner and Blenda Jaxxon. Suggested donation £10.
Apple season is here. The trees are spilling over with them. It’s great. I love apples. And on October 4-5, Brogdale Collections is putting on an apple fair. There will be talks about apples, apples tasting, orchard tours, apple displays, and kids’ apple juicing. Best of all, your ticket gets you a free tote bag, which you can fill with 4kg of free apples. Tickets £12.
The Rising Tide Craft Beer Festival takes place on October 24-25 at Canterbury Cathedral Lodge. Breweries including Time & Tide, Burnt Mill, Two Flints, Sure Shot, and Verdant will be pouring their beers. There will also be various local street food stalls. Entry fee includes a £10 beer token. Tickets £25.
Culty Film Club launches with its first event on Wednesday, October 29 at Cliftonville’s Faith in Strangers. The night will begin with a four course meal, followed by a film quiz and finally a screening of George Romero’s 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead. Tickets £55.
Harry Baker will be recording a live episode of his Something Borrowed podcast with fellow poet Caitlin O’Ryan at Ark in Cliftonville on Wednesday, October 15. The night will open with an open mic. Tickets £13.70.
Analogue Ensemble brings its experimental film night to Ramsgate Arts Club on Sunday, October 26. There will be a programme of short films followed by discussions. Local filmmakers interested in showing their work should get in touch. Free entry.
As part of Margate Queer Library’s series of events on censorship, Bob Chicalors will host a porn amnesty and collage making workshop on Wednesday, October 8. Bring along your unwanted jazz mags and turn them into something new. Materials will be provided for those confused by the idea of magazine ownership, or you could just pretend it's 1998 and buy something from a petrol station on the way. Free tickets.
Independent Broadstairs is back with a festive twist on Thursday, November 27 from 6-8pm. There will be late night shopping, workshops, market stalls, food, drink and more. Frantically do all of your Christmas shopping or take a leisurely stroll around the town’s independent businesses.
New cafe Lowlife launches Cliftonville Chess Club on Wednesday, October 8. The free weekly get-together welcomes people of all skill levels to come and have a game from 5-7pm. Before that, at 4-5pm each week, there will be £5 lessons for children aged 6+ with local chess coach Steph Farley.
Margate has a new quiz. The first edition of Mr Ned’s Bread Dead Redemption was on Sunday night at Where Else and had a bread theme. On Sunday, November 2 the theme will be death. Then on Sunday, December 14 it’s redemption. The prizes differ each month, but include bread, a guided tour of Margate cemetery, and a Christmas hamper. It’s a 7pm start, maximum of five in a team and £2 per head entry.
