Bringing folk music back to the coffee shop, singer-songwriter and ex-Goat Girl Naima Bock plays an intimate gig at Curve Coffee Store in Margate on Tuesday, October 14. Her new album Below a Massive Dark Land is out on September 27. Tickets, £17.04, are limited so be quick to nab one.
Broadstairs’ Foliage Plants launched its new home on Albion Street last night, but the party is still going. Now open in the evenings on Fridays and Saturdays, head down for some picky bits, a cocktail and perhaps a chain of hearts or two.
Louie-on-Sea hosts The Adobros for one evening of fine Filipino food and music. Expect zippy flavours, regional traditions, family recipes and a soundtrack by DJ Pinoy Grooves. There’s plenty of vegan dishes, or you can just get stuck into the likes of deep-fried pork belly with lemongrass and garlic or gin-cured market fish. Spots are £45 per head and the dinner starts at 7pm.
Do you love chicken and bargains? Chix Stock at Cinque Ports has got you covered with its on-going Thursday special of £1 wings - AND THERE’S NO LIMIT. Smash your way through original, BBQ or Nashville Hot marinated bird, and wash it down with £5 margaritas. Available between 4pm and 9pm.
Chump’s Comedy is bringing James Acaster to Margate for a work-in-progress show on Wednesday, November 26. Tickets went on sale yesterday and sold out within seconds, but why not join us on the waiting list.
How well do you know your yeasts and your hops? The Fermentorium in Ramsgate will host a beer quiz for beer geeks who would like to sample beers as part of the quiz’s beer tasting round. Tickets are £15 a pop (including two beers) and teams have a max of four people. It’s on Wednesday, July 9 at 7pm. DM to book.
Not for a while, but always fun, the TKE Studios Summer Fair returns Saturday, August 30 from 1pm. Come along for art, games, performances, food and community.
Disco punk duo AK/DK return to Ramsgate Music Hall for synths, drums and sweaty dancing. On Sunday, September 28 with £15 tickets, one man techno band Pistole comes along for the support.
Broadstairs’ Neptunes Choir hosts their Summer Concert on Friday, July 11 with proceeds going to The Gap Project, a Broadstairs charity supporting locals in need. Held at Holy Trinity Church on Nelson Place, CT10 1HQ. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. Tickets £14.25.
Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara is on display at the Hayward Gallery on London Southbank until the end of August. The exhibition is the largest ever retrospective of her work in Europe, featuring more than 150 paintings. Tickets £20.
On Friday July 25, Sea Spirit and Stones returns to Stone Bay for a family circle. Bring the partner and the kids, for a 2.5 hour session filled with mindful stuff like mediation, a family swim, and healing music. Tickets are £20 for adults, with children going for free. The event starts at 5.30pm.
An ongoing treat, Seabird in Ramsgate hosts a happy hour, Wednesday to Friday, 3pm to 6pm. Drop by for two margaritas or martinis for £14.
