Things to do in Thanet over the coming months, as well as local performers and chefs heading out in East Kent and London

Stand up comedy, a bum-focussed kids book launch, the second Ramsgate Pride march, a pub quiz and more. So many things to do around Thanet in the coming months, as well as East Kent and London too.
Lou Sanders will be bringing her new show No Kissing in the Bingo Hall to Ramsgate’s Granville Theatre on Friday, September 19. It is, she says, “a deep, dumb show … about being human” And, she adds, “just like Tom Cruise does all his own stunts, I'm going to do all my own jokes!” Tickets £21.83.
The Crab Museum in Margate has announced two launch events for its new children’s book A Natural History of Bums. A whole launch weekend, in fact. Taking place on June 7 and 8, both events start at 10.30am. There will be readings from the book, a kid-friendly talk about the importance of bums, and a game of pin the anus on the animal. Tickets £2. The book itself is out on June 5 - read our recent interview with its author and Crab Museum co-founder Bertie Suesat-Williams.
Ramsgate Pride’s second march takes place Saturday, June 14, raising funds for trans+ charity Not A Phase. If you want to nab a spot in the protest (10.30am registration 11am start), register now. Marching spots are limited, so if you miss out, you can still show your support by cheering everyone on.
Recently seen performing solo in Margate, comedian Rob Auton will be back again in July, this time combining his spoken word with music from Public Service Broadcasting member JF Abraham. Called Words With Music, the show premiered at last year’s End of the Road festival. It’ll be at Where Else on Friday, July 18. Tickets £17.47.
Pomus has paired up with Sandgate wine shop John Dory for a pop-up feast. On Wednesday, May 28, the £45 set menu includes luscious morsels such as Whitstable oysters with strawberry and sorrel mignonette, aged beef tartare, whole grain sole slathered with sea herbs and smoked butter as well as a rhubarb tart to finish with. DM to book.
The Shakespeare in Margate will host its last quiz before summer kicks in on Tuesday, June 3. Hosted by Laura Bailey, a linguist, expect some high-brow, tricky questions as well as some curveballs and some wordplay. DM the pub to book your table.
Wanna get your groove on to remixes of all your favourite 70s, 80s and 90s hits, as well as some hidden gems and modern chart toppers? Margate’s newest gay bar La! puts on Zoo! - a night that does exactly that on Friday, May 30 from 9pm to late. Free entry.
The Curiosity Shop in Broadstairs is running a Dickens-themed art competition to mark this year’s Broadstairs Dickens Festival. Open to everyone of all ages, the exhibition will run June 14-15. An afternoon tea for two is up for grabs, with customers voting for their favourite pieces over the weekend. Enter by June 12.
Feast Club is back with its Stupid Sexy Seafood Boil. Taking place on Saturday, June 7 at The Albion Rooms in Ramsgate, don’t take anyone you want to look good in front of, because this is the type of meal that usually comes with a bib. With whole lobster and whole brown crab alongside snow crab clusters, king prawns, mussels and corn on the cob, you’ll be sucking and slurping and crunching and snapping and gnawing and creating a right old mess as you make your way through the hefty feast. We haven’t even mentioned the jalapeno cornbread, pickles and mac n cheese. Oof. What a meal. £50pp with a minimum of two people per boil. DM to book.
Chump’s Comedy (read our interview) co-founder Kit Proudfoot has written a sitcom. Goons “follows two overlooked henchmen stuck on the sidelines of a crime syndicate.” There will be a live reading of it at the Museum of Comedy in London on Thursday, June 5. Free tickets.
Margate’s Social Singing Choir will be hosting a Margate Pride fundraiser at Olby’s in Margate on Thursday, June 5. Get along to hear some choral versions of Pride classics, and get involved in other fundraising activities. These are always a lot of fun. Tickets £8.
Fancy “an evening of experimental beats and punishing rhythms”? Of course you do. The Subliminal Sound night will be returning to 101 Social in Cliftonville on Saturday, May 31 with performances from Frost, Deep Sea Internet Cables, Drinkpen and The Scoleri Brothers. If live drums, electronic music and complex rhythms are your thing, this is a must see. £5 suggested donation.
New York-based actor Kate Valentine will be bringing her one woman show Women of a Certain Rage to Cliftonville’s Tom Thumb Theatre on Sunday, June 22. “A romp, a rant, a bloodletting, about living in a female body in the 21st century,” says the blurb. “A vivisection of the American medical system. Your doctor is in, and he has been diagnosed with white male privilege. Ms Valentine is filling your prescription for dismantling the patriarchy!” Tickets £12.
