Half term coinciding with a heatwave has been the fortuitous weather shift we hadn’t expected but have very much enjoyed. Lots of time at the beach, swimming in the sea, sampling Thanet’s various ice cream options (Lulu’s in Margate and Scoop in Ramsgate win this round) and escaping into arcades.
We also found time to pop into Ramsgate Lit Fest for Tamara Macfarlane’s session inspired by her children’s book The Book of Mysteries, Magic, and the Unexplained, which included actual magic from entertainer Gilbert Giggles. It was lovely to hang out for a while at the Book Hotel, perusing the shelves and reading our choices over a hot chocolate.
Last night, we managed to sneak in a trip up to London to see the magnificent Aldous Harding at the Barbican, while back by the sea now we’re hoping for a break in the clouds for some more beach time over the weekend.
With that in mind, for this week’s feature we’ve collected together a list of our favourite beaches in Kent - because despite having so many within walking distance, it’s nice to go a bit further afield sometimes, isn’t it?
