News Blast: Get involved with this year's Margate Film Festival
How you can be a part of this year's Margate Film Festival and Margate Pride, a new club opening, a Ramsgate restoration project and more. Here's what's happening in Thanet right now.
Margate Film Festival has put out a call for collaborators to get involved in this year’s event, which is set to take place in the autumn. If you have an idea for an event or have a weird space that would be great to use, they want to hear from you. You can also submit films for consideration, pitch to design this year’s festival artwork, or volunteer as a pre-selector to review submitted short films.
Margate Pride is seeking volunteers to help with the running of this year’s programme. Roles cover everything from stewarding to online admin. If you have skills and spare time, contact margatepridevolunteers@gmail.com to find out more.
The venue formerly occupied by Sundowners has reopened as Margate Beach Club. The bar, club and now seaside retreat on Albert Terrace has been fully refurbished and, of course, retains the amazing sunset views from inside and out on the terrace. You’ll also be able to grab drinks (and more come July) from the downstairs Beach Club Kiosk. Follow on Instagram.
Property developer Arcvelop has completed a full restoration of a former office building on Albion Place in Ramsgate. The impressive transformation converts the Grade II listed terrace into 24 flats. The project involved installing “canter-levering new balconies at first floor, excavating the old basements [and putting in] over 160 new windows”, explains Arcvelop founder Marc Turner. See the transformation.
Cliftonville Dining Room - which takes over the space previously occupied by Bangkok Thai - has completed its refurb and is now putting out the call for anyone wanting to use it for a pop-up food residency. DM for more details.
Green energy company Hydrogen TE has submitted plans to build the UK’s first waste-to-hydrogen operation on a ten acre site in Manston. If approved, the site is set to open in 2027, converting waste earmarked for landfill or incineration into low carbon energy. The company also says it will create around 100 jobs locally. Ramsgate’s Petticoat Lane Emporium indoor market is opening a second space on Sandgate Road in Folkestone. It will offer a similar collection of vintage fashion, antiques and crafts. The grand opening is set for Friday, June 27.
