CAMP in Cliftonville is again fighting for survival, as LGBTQ+ venues around the country close at an alarming rate. On the positive side, its owners say that they have a long term plan that will keep it open, with financial support available if it shifts its focus to community events. However, before that funding arrives, the venue has to make it through the winter, which is less assured. Reluctantly, they’re now asking for donations to help keep the bar afloat. Find out more and donate.
Thanet baby bank Mama To Mama has launched its annual festive crowdfunder to raise funs to support children under five and families in the district. In 2025, the charity has supported over 240 families who would otherwise have gone without essential clothing, equipment and support. So that’s reason enough to support it, but on top of that, Mama To Mama has teamed up with a load of local business to provide amazing rewards for those who donate. Donations are also being matched by Aviva. See the rewards and donate.
The first run of Dunkirk Little Ships 2025, a photo book by Thanet photographers Mike Goldswater and David Babian marking the 85th anniversary of Operation Dynamo, has sold out. A second run will be available at the end of the month, all things going to plan. Order your copy.

Thanet artist Emily Peasgood has an idea on how to turn the St George’s flag and the Union Jack into less divisive symbols. She is working with Thanetians to create This is England, a large-scale community artwork created from reclaimed flags that once hung in public spaces. She says the flags will be turned into something that “reflects inclusion and community, rather than division” and which encompasses the many different communities living in Thanet. As part of the project, free community sewing workshops, open to everyone, will take place on Friday, November 21 in Ramsgate, 6.30pm to 9pm, Saturday, November 22 in Broadstairs, 10.30am to 1pm and later the same day in Margate 2.30pm to 5pm. Another sewing bee will take place on Saturday, November 29 in Margate, 1pm to 4pm. Book into a session.
The Art Café is now open downstairs at Margate School of Art on the High Street on Thursdays and Fridays, 10am to 5pm. Drop in for coffee and homemade cakes.
