The Palace Cinema in Broadstairs has been longlisted for Cinema of the Year at the British Independent Cinema Awards. The final decision will be made by a jury of experts next month, but there’s also a public vote that will be taken into account as they make their deliberations. Submissions close on September 22. As if the coffee and buns weren’t great enough already, Walpole Bay refreshment horsebox Afterparty has teamed up with Coldcuts Subs to offer freshly made sandwiches from midday to 3pm Thursday to Sunday. Dover District Council has voted in favour of a major revamp of the Tides Leisure Centre in Deal. Already closed for several months, the £20 million project will see it out of action for at least two years, as the old building is demolished. Once open though, the new centre will hold a 25 metre pool and gym. Sadly, there are no plans to build a new waterslide, which was always the main reason for going there. Find out more.

Applications are now open for the Margate School of Art’s European Fine Art Masters programme, which supports emerging artists in their professional development.
