A new cabaret club for Ramsgate, guided tree walks, Olby's 25th birthday and more upcoming events in Thanet and beyond. Get your diary filled!

Screaming Alley has announced the opening weekend programme for its new members club The Alley Bar in Ramsgate. Comedian Violet Malice will perform her show Hard Feelings on Friday, December 5. Tickets £10. Then on Saturday, December 6, drag icon Diane Chorley will hit the stage to assess the new venue. Tickets £20

National Tree Week begins next Saturday and runs until Sunday, November 30. As you may have noticed, that’s slightly more than a week. Trees will not be contained to seven days! Thanet Urban Forest will be hosting guided walks to get you out among the trees of the district. Tivoli Park on November 22, Montefiore Woodlands on November 23, Sunken Gardens on November 29 and St Peter’s Churchyard on November 30. Tickets from £5

Olby’s in Margate Old Town is turning 25 years old! To mark the occasion, on Friday, November 28 the venue is holding a party. Owner Eli Thompson will be serving up a special edition of his Eli’s Soul Supper night and there will be Caribbean-inspired food on the menu too. Free entry. Reserve a table.

Eccentric one-man band Ichi will play Ramsgate Music Hall on Thursday, May 28. With an array of homemade instruments and everyday objects, he makes music that has turned the likes of David Byrne, Steve Lamacq and Lauren Laverne into fans. Tickets £17.50

Seed Talks returns to Canterbury Christ Church University on Thursday, December 11 with Folklore & Women: The Power of Folklore in Reclaiming Female Stories. University of Oxford professor Diane Purkiss will discuss how folklore has shaped how we view ourselves and homes, and explore the power of folklore, its symbols and role in today’s society. Abstract artist Alice Walton’s new solo exhibition Colour Abstractions is on at Joseph Wales Studio in Cliftonville from November 26 to December 1. Her fifth exhibition in Kent, she will be showing new works inspired by the sea, sky and changing light of natural landscapes. Find out more

The next Keeno film discussion group will take place at Big Shot in Margate on Wednesday, December 3. Following a general talk about cinema at the first edition this month, the next conversation will turn to 1952 movie The White Reindeer and 1976’s A Dream Longer Than The Night. Big news (if you’re me, at least), the All Points East and Outbreak festivals are teaming up to put on Deftones’ biggest ever UK show in Hackney’s Victoria Park next summer. The show will be on Sunday, August 23 and support acts include Idles, Amyl and the Sniffers, Jpegmafia and more. Incredible. Tickets from £64.95.

Want to test your limits? Pomus in Margate’s The Centre is offering bottomless steaks and chips on Monday, December 8 for £29 a pop. Fill your boots(/stomach) with steak, frites, homemade bread and salad for an hour, while quaffing red wine specials. Booking essential.

Wild Goose Food over in Canterbury is hosting a gingerbread house decorating workshop, in partnership with Little Sugar on November 27 and December 4. Tickets are £15 and include either a hot chocolate or mulled wine, as well as your gingerbread castle, which you can eat or smash with your head. Work-in-progress exhibition OBLIOX Loading opens at Salon in Margate, December 12-17. Alongside the exhibition which features 3D works, a pop-up will sell prints and clothing among other goodies. 

Hosted by Sham Shakil, comedy night Funny Cuts pops up at Margate Beach Club on Friday, November 28, with doors at 7pm. Tickets are £5 on the door

Garden Gate Project is hosting a lovely festive morning on Sunday, December 7, 10am to 1.30pm. Weave foraged wreaths while singing traditional festive folk songs, then warm yourself up with soup, tea and cake while singing more songs around a fire. Tickets £40.

The Margate School of Art puts on its Christmas Market, Saturday and Sunday, December 6-7 from 11am-5pm. Head to 31-33 High Street for handmade gifts, clothes, art, cards and a cafe to fuel you with coffee.
