Stand up comedy, spoken word, running for beer, community events and more. Get the jump on what's coming up in Thanet and further afield.

POW in the Park returns to Ramsgate’s gorgeous Ellington Park on Saturday, June 21. There will be a full day of fun, including stalls, activities, workshops, performances and a makers market, with live music in the evening. And all for free. We’ll also be in attendance - more news on which soon. 

Following its first outing earlier this month, Writing in Progress has announced that it will be back in June. A creative writing open mic night, it sees writers of poetry, prose, non-fiction, letters, scripts, comedy, whatever, take the stage to share their work. It returns Wednesday, June 11, at Margate Off Licence. DM to book a spot or come along to listen. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start

Comedian Nick Mohammed brings his self-deprecating humour and show Mr Swallow: Show Pony to Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, Sunday, June 1, and there are still £31 tickets left. In July, Jimmy Carr will also bring his stand up to Canterbury, cracking savage jokes over two nights, July 4-5. Tickets for that are £38

Kentish vineyard, Westwell Wines are hosting a walk and talk and drink on Sunday, September 14 at 11am. Led by writer Gemma Purkiss, this is a 12km walk along the Pilgrim’s Way, an ancient path that runs above Westwell, that finishes with a glass of vino. The walk takes around three hours. Tickets £15

First seen at the Turner Contemporary as part of last year’s Margate Pride, Letters You’ll Never Send will be back with more anonymous letters performed by professional actors at the Hen and Chickens Theatre in Islington, on Tuesday, July 15. Is there a memo to a specific person you continually redraft in your mind? A conversation you never felt finished? A comeback that you never pistol-fired? Whether it’s to a lover, family member, boss or missed connection, you can pen your letter and send it into Letters You’ll Never Send anonymously by July 10 to be considered for an on stage reading. 

For beer-drinking runners, That Running Club are heading out for a 10km run on Saturday, June 7 followed by beers at the Flock Taproom in Canterbury. Can’t make this one? Don’t worry, it’s become a monthly event. 

Warp Records is taking over the Barbican in London on Saturday, June 14. There will be a programme of events across the centre from noon until late, including live music and video screenings. You’ll also be able to experience a new sound work by producer Kwes for free. Full details

The next Northdown Road Shops Block Party is set to take place in Cliftonville on Saturday, July 26. As usual, there will be music, art, exhibits, activities, discounts, food and drink, and more. 

Marine biologist Helen Scales will be discussing her new book What the Wild Sea Can Be with photographer and filmmaker Rebecca Douglas at the Fort Road Hotel in Margate on Sunday, June 8. Nominated for the Women’s Prize, the book is both a history of the deep sea and a call to protect our oceans. Free tickets

Marking the opening of her new exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London, on Saturday, June 21 artist Jenny Saville will be joined by actor Cate Blanchet for a conversation about what it means to be an artist today. The bad news is, it’s already sold out. However, the event will also be live streamed, which at least saves you a train journey. Tickets £10.
