Miley Cyrus on the big screen, a big cinema birthday, bottomless brunch, book talks, summer beach fun and more. All the Thanet events you need to add to your diary (and a pop-up diner in London too).

Enjoy Miley Cyrus’s new visual album Something Beautiful on the big screen at the Carlton Cinema in Westgate on Friday, June 27. A pop opera written and directed by the singer herself, it features thirteen new songs. “Something Beautiful is my dream project come true - fashion, film, and original music co-existing in harmony,” she says. Tickets £8.

Broadstairs’ Palace Cinema turns 60 next month. To mark the occasion it’ll be recreating its opening in 1965 (then known as the York Gate Cinema) on Friday, July 11 with a matinee screening of the Wizard of Oz. There will be other screenings of the film across that week, as well as other special birthday events from June 21 to July 13. Full details

The team behind seafood supper club Catch have announced the Over Easy Brunch Club. There will be a choice of meaty or vegetarian set menus, plus a fine selection of bottomless cocktails and other drinks. The first one will take place at Gather& in Ramsgate on Saturday, June 28. Places £40

This year’s Broadstairs Water Gala will take place on Wednesday, July 30 with a day of free activities on the beach and along Victoria Gardens. It will finished with live music and a fireworks display. Full details

American essayist Jeremy Atherton Lin will be discussing his new book Deep House at CAMP in Cliftonville on Thursday, June 19. Part history of the fight for gay rights, part intimate memoir, the book follows 2021’s award-winning Gay Bar: Why We Went Out. Jeremy will be interviewed by Margate writer Mendez. Free tickets

Margate author David Whitehouse will discuss his second non-fiction book Saltwater Mansions at the Fort Road Hotel in Margate on Thursday, June 19. The follow-up to 2022’s brilliant About A Son, the book explores the life and disappearance of Margate resident Caroline Lane, as well delving into the stories of those who lived around her in her block of flats. Irish post-rock duo A Burial at Sea will be heading to Ramsgate Music Hall on Thursday, August 7. Tickets £17.50.

Two new shows announced at Where Else in Margate this week. Gurriers are set to play the venue on Wednesday, October 22. Tickets £15. Meanwhile, The Bug Club will then be on the stage on Thursday, November 6. Tickets £16.

Chef Jemma Harrison will take over the kitchen at Sète in Cliftonville on June 21-22. She will be cooking up a menu shaped by seasonal ingredients, zero-waste principles, and her Ashkenazi heritage. Book now

Broadstairs’ Neptunes Choir will perform their summer concert at Holy Trinity Church on Friday, July 11. The event will raise money for local charity The Gap Project. Folk duo The Woolfs will also perform. Tickets £14.25.

Do you like damn good coffee? A Twin Peaks themed diner is popping up in London for one day only on Wednesday, June 18, marking the David Lynch-directed show’s 35th anniversary. The work of streaming service Mubi, you’ll find the diner at New River Café on Stoke Newington Church Street. You’ll also be able to watch the original and 2017 series of the show on Mubi from June 13.
