Things to do in the run up to the festive season and next summer, including live music, comedy, festive fun and more

Kesha in Margate, retro gaming, wine tasting, an improv comedy course, Beaujolais Nouveax and (sorry) Christmas. Newly announced events to get into your diary now.

Bona fide pop icon Kesha will play Dreamland next summer. She’ll hit the Scenic Stage in the theme park on Sunday, July 5. Tickets £53.75.

Also at Dreamland next summer, Garbage and Skunk Anansie will co-headline the venue on Friday, June 19. Tickets go on general sale on Friday.

Retro gaming night Junk Yard Gaming is back. It will pop up at Lowlife in Cliftonville on Sunday, November 23 with a wide selection of vintage consoles on offer to play on. Entry £5 on the door. Can’t make it? There’s another event at Margate Arts Club on Wednesday, December 10. Tickets £5

You know what’s better than sipping a fine champagne? Sipping several. Bottleneck in Broadstairs is hosting a champagne tasting night on Thursday, November 27. You’ll be taken through the range made by Louis Roederer, with cheese and charcuterie to soak it up. Tickets £55

Harboured a fantasy that you might be the next great comic or perhaps just want to have fun? Chump’s Comedy is putting on an eight-week improv course where participants will say ‘yes, and’ and will get you thinking creatively on your feet. The course will introduce you to the fundamentals principles of the FA style of long-form improvisation, guiding you through creating scenes and scenarios while having fun. Held at Turner Contemporary on Sundays from January 4 to February 22 at 10am-1pm, it’s suitable to all ability levels. £275 for a spot on the course

Beaujolais Nouveau day is coming up. Is it wine Christmas or just a marketing gimmick? Something to ponder. Perhaps over a glass of wine. Bottles of wine made from recently harvested grapes will be arriving from the Beaujolais region in bars across Thanet on Thursday, November 20. Try the sweet, fruity red at Penelope in Ramsgate, Bottleneck and Sonder in Broadstairs, and The Last Light, Riding Wine Co, The Shakespeare and Little Swift in Margate

And finally, they’ve been sneaking into the schedule quietly for weeks but now the Christmas events are arriving thick and fast. If you’re not ready to think about getting festive yet, look away now…

Head out into Broadstairs on Thursday, November 27 for Independent Broadstairs, a night of festive cheer and Christmas shopping in the town’s independent shops and bars. As well as opportunities to shop, there will be workshops, food and drink. 

Father Christmas will be holed up at Margate Caves on selected dates from November 29 to December 23. This year’s grotto has a Peter Pan theme, with the caves dressed up with classic scenes from the story. Follow the trail to find Santa and receive your early Christmas gift. Tickets £15.95 per child

The Old Curiosity Shop in Broadstairs has a load of festive events lined up for kids and grown ups. Advent calendar making on Thursday, November 27; wreath making on Friday, November 28; bauble painting on Tuesday, December 9; Plate painting on Tuesday, December 16; and afternoon tea with Santa on December 6, 7, 16 and 18.

The Granville in Ramsgate is putting on Aladdin as its pantomime this year. It runs from December 13-24 with two performances most day and three on December 20. Tickets from £26.95

Unsure about what wine to put on the table this Christmas? Bottleneck in Broadstairs is hosting a Twelve Wines of Christmas tasting on Thursday, November 20. Covering white, red, sparkling and dessert wine, you’ll taste seven wines and be introduced to another five. There’ll be cheese and charcuterie too. Places £55

The Turner is hosting some Christmas craft workshops. Make a festive wreath with What a Lovely Bunch on Sunday, November 23 or Wednesday, December 10. Places £60. And join Webb & Gray to make gilded walnut tree decorations on Sunday, December 14. Places £14

Jingle Bell Rocks! is on at ARK in Cliftonville in the run up to Christmas. Brigitte Aphrodite, QuietBoy and Liv Morris will be performing punked up version of classic Christmas songs in this family-friendly show. Two performances per day from December 20-23. Tickets £7.50

Why not have a think about New Year’s Eve as well? Margate Arts Club has announced its party already, which will be a celebration of disco from all over the world. Tickets £10.
